FleetZone synchronizes multiple sites centrally and automatically

With any fleet management solution, refreshing the system with updates and extracting useful information from the system is a necessary daily task. For example, as employees leave and get hired, or when vehicles are added or retired from the fleet, administrators must update the system to reflect these changes by “downloading” these changes to each remote site computer. Conversely, as various site activities generate new transactions, these must be “uploaded” from the remote site to the system database. This process, known as data synchronization can become a surprisingly tedious chore, particularly for medium and large organizations that typically operate in multi-site environments.

  • Flaw #1: Decentralization, where each site is a stand-alone system. Perhaps the gravest flaw in multi-site environments, a decentralized architecture forces time consuming multiple entry of repetitive data, an unacceptable state of affairs for system administrators. To further aggravate matters, decentralized architecture almost always imply manual synchronization as well.
  • Flaw #2: Manual synchronization, where system administrators are burdened with the daily chore of manually initiating the synchronization process for each site. What to do when one is on vacation or sick leave?
  • Flaw #3: Restricted communication channel, where the system supports but a single type of communication to the remote sites, usually a telephone line and modem. This means the additional cost of leasing one extra telephone line per site, not to mention long distance fees and slow data rates (in the range of 14 to 50 kbps) that limit the frequency of data refreshes.

FleetZone eliminates all of these problems with its proprietary SiteLink technology.

A key component of FleetZone, SiteLink is the software application that polls and synchronizes all connected sites, with zero human intervention. Thanks to ultra-efficient software algorithms, SiteLink maintains sites synchronized reliably over any channel supporting TCP/IP, including private data networks such as LANs, MANs and WANs, intranets, the public Internet. Of course, cellular and plain old telephone lines are also supported.

The FleetZone system administrator sets the polling schedule for each site individually, allowing long distance and cellular sites to be polled less frequently in order to minimize telecommunication costs.
